Florida is located between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. Florida is a Spanish adjective which means "flowery." The peninsula was named by Juan Ponce de León, who landed on the coast in 1513 during "Pascua Florida," a Spanish term for the Easter season.  Florida is the second most heavily populated southern state (behind Texas), and a world famous vacation destination.  Florida has an extensive coastline and the states beaches are legendary.
