Florida
is located between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits
of Florida. Florida is a Spanish adjective which means "flowery." The
peninsula was named by Juan Ponce de León, who landed on the coast in 1513
during "Pascua Florida," a Spanish term for the Easter season.
Florida is the second most heavily populated southern state (behind
Texas), and a world famous vacation destination. Florida has an
extensive coastline and the states beaches are legendary.
